The North West Sports Board was established in order to lead the planning and co-ordination of the work of sports providers in the region. Production of a strategic plan is at the heart of its work, although the Board acts merely as a tool for the region's sports organisations in this respect. Whilst a Board Sub-group has produced this Statement, its membership was drawn from a wide range of relevant organisations and the Statement produced after widespread consultation with organisations throughout the region.
The Board represents the region's local authorities, sports governing bodies and other statutory and voluntary sector partners with an interest in developing sport. It provides a democratic and independent mechanism for influencing national and regional policy and for developing sports activity through its work at national, regional and local levels.
This Statement has been written in order to provide a strategic focus for the development of sport in the region over the next five years. It is a plan for all organisations currently working in sport and for those in other sectors that are using sport as a way of achieving their own objectives. It has been produced to help organisations prioritise and focus their own work in line with two significant driving forces - the national and regional developments which effect their work environment and an assessment of the needs of North West communities.
