Addressing the Health Agenda: A new focus for sports activity - health.

doh02

description

"Sport, fitness and leisure professionals have the opportunity to make a huge impact on the health of our communities by promoting participation in sport and physical activity. The extent of this impact and its potential in terms of disease prevention and treatment and tackling health inequalities, is largely unrecognised. This, together with the government's modernisation plans and cross cutting agenda, presents the need for greater collaboration between the sport, fitness, leisure and health sectors. In order to really make a difference it is vital that we start to make greater connections with our counterparts in health."

This document aims to explain how this can be achieved and why it is so important. It will also help you to understand the basic structures and terminology familiar to the healthcare setting and offer action points on how to develop links with the health sector.
