Sport and the Family (parental attitudes to sport and their children)

description

This MORI study of sport and the family has produced a range of interesting and important findings. The study shows that sport and a physically active lifestyle are highly valued in British society, and school physical education is viewed as an essential dimension of young people's education. Indeed, physical educators will be greatly encouraged to learn that there is strong public support for a minimum time allocation to physical education in schools.

The authors also note a paradox. There is the widely held view among adults that children nowadays [2000] are less active than they themselves were as children. The paradox is further compounded by the perception that opportunities now available to children to participate in sport have increased.
