Known problems with the database

Our database is a web-based live database driven by a programme called PhPlist. It sends confirmation email through a secure email server that is sometimes not recognised by some "spam filters" rejecting the email, not as spam, but as not having a valid MX designation. Such spam filters (sometimes installed on a few University & Local authority email servers) means that our confirmation email for your membership of our database is rejected and you don't get the activation email and as a consequence don't join our datalist.

The majority of University Email servers are fine. We suspect a few that we have listed in our comments - faq pages on the discussion forums. Please visit for more information.

If you have signed up to one of our databases and don't get a confirmation email within 24hours, it may be that your email server has rejected our activation email. In such cases please send email here from your membership email address and we will activate your account manually. We are trying to solve this known problem which does not appear to be a problem on our discussion forums, just our email database.

The value of information and contacts is well established in sport development. We have since 2002 built a sport development contact database from all over the UK (and beyond) that has proved invaluable in the development of national research projects.

The database is open to anyone involved in any form of sport development (although our students list is held separately) the list is not sold or given to any third parties for commercial purposes and members of the list can remove themselves at any time via email. (see below)

Our sports development database is a web-based PhP/MySQL powered email database entirely owned and operated by sportdevelopment.org.uk .

Designed to begin the development of a sports development community the database shares similar values to the profession in that members are empowered to join, alter their preferences, remove themselves and update their details without social gatekeepers. In other words, you can join, leave and alter your details as you wish and at anytime without anyone else (us) getting in the way.

We do however, reserve the right to remove list members at our discretion (ie. students once they have graduated) or list members whose emails have bounced over five times.

This database is a relational database and all information held by us is subject to our privacy policy insofar as the UK data protection act otherwise allows.

Information about you is not sold, traded or shared with third parties other than is detailed in our privacy policy.
