Qualified for success: A survey of CCPR member organisations qualifications in relation to the National Qualifications Framework

description

A key function of many CCPR member organisations, and in particular the National Governing Bodies of sport, is to provide training and qualifications which enable people, both paid and unpaid, to provide safe and enjoyable opportunities for others to participate in sport and recreation.

The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) is currently [2002] introducing a "National Qualifications Framework" in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The purpose of the Framework is to ensure that the awarding of publicly funded qualifications is quality assured. Only those qualifications which appear on the Framework will be eligible for the mainstream Government funding, administered through the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) which helps to make qualifications both more affordable and more easily accessible.

A number of CCPR members have expressed concern about their ability to place their awards on the National Qualifications Framework. CCPR is concerned that sport and physical recreation should not miss the opportunity to secure sustainable funding for the qualifications that are essential to their survival, development and contribution to society. The CCPR therefore undertook this research to gain a better understanding of the current standing of its member organisations with regards to the National Qualifications Framework and Learning and Skills Council funding.
