As a website we have a number of principal focus areas;
- The document Library - we harvest (and sometimes create) documents related to sport development for inclusion and archiving in our library. All of these documents are available to download.
- Ruff Guides - we create single pages that serve as academic introductions to particular subjects in sport development, these are designed to introduce the conceptual and theoretical domains that will guide students to resources for essays and research projects. We aim our ruff guides at a mix between analytical and critical evaluation (about level 2 bordering on 3 in higher education speak). Some Ruff Guides are better in quality than others, we have sought to make just a start and therefore we welcome input from academics who would like to add to our content by offering between 500 and 1000 words linked to documents (either on site or off) so that we can improve this guidence for students.
- Data collection - we collect email contact addresses from professionals, volunteers, students and academics. These lists are sometimes used to avail researchers of samples of the sport development population and to advertise opportunies for database members in terms of careers, information, site updates, conferences and academic course opprtunities. Our lists are never sold and are dedicated only to sport development relevant opportunities. We have written a privacy policy that confirms this.
- Sustaining the site - the site has to generate some income to keep going, we do this currently in two ways; firstly we sell website CD's to students - the website CD is a mirror image of the site with all the narrative and all the documents held on it. Secondly, we avail organisations and institutions of advertising on the site (we take the BBC approach to advertising, small, subtle and relevant - HEI's who sponsor us percieve a value in terms of recruitment, not suprising since we get over a thousand visits per week from sport development students.
